Legacy vs Ares
I’m a huge fan of both Tron: Legacy and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ movie scores, so I found myself at the opening weekend of Tron: Ares a couple days ago.
- Intense audio visual experience? of course
- Sweet dueling motorcycle scenes? aw yeah
- Resonant character arcs? nope
- Compelling philosophical commentary? not really
The first three are a pretty natural result of mixing Nine Inch Nails, Jared Leto, and the Tron aesthetic, but after rewatching Tron: Legacy last night, I was surprised to find that the philosophy of the 2010 sequel is far more impactful than the latest installment.
Failures
I like the idea of tackling shame head-on by simply putting the responsible stimuli on display. This post may later get hidden, depending on whether these details are wise to be associated so closely with my consulting business, but for now: caution to the wind!
As mentioned previously, I installed Ubuntu 25.04 because I carried out a long overdue wipe and reinstall of my personal development laptop. Mainly, I was hoping to get rid of a bug that is causing a crash randomly as a result of some interaction with the touchpad.
Why a blog?
This is a nice space to self-expose while limiting the blast radius.
For some reason, social media sites have by default struck me as too visible to be meaningfully candid. I mean, yeah, it’s your account so you can say whatever you want, but it’s a bold bet to imagine that even half of the connections that see your content will give even half an ass about whatever happens to be on your mind. If I’m going to presume to shout something out to the grade school friend, coworker, grandma, and ex girlfriend, then it’s probably best to stick to a photo of a cute puppy.
